Section of Political Philosophy
Political philosophy has always focused on the development of concepts, models and criteria in order to analyze and evaluate existing and alternative social concepts, uncover problems and propose solutions. In short, political philosophy is therefore concerned with a critical and productive examination of the social and legal rules of social coexistence.
The Department of Political Philosophy is dedicated to the question of how the rules of liberal societies can be further developed against the backdrop of ever new challenges - migration, populism, freedom of expression, social media and artificial intelligence - in order to ensure fair and productive coexistence.
At the same time, the department is committed to keeping the normative and conceptual foundations of the liberal basic order - autonomy, civil rights, democracy, human dignity, the rule of law, the social market economy and tolerance - alive in the public sphere through lectures and contributions to discussions.
